THE main road from Keswick to Borrowdale will partly reopen on Monday, according to Cumbria County Council.

Following the completion of emergency repair work on the B5289, which has been closed since February 10, one lane of the road is set to reopen.

Council workers have carried out essential repairs to a retaining wall at the side of the road and it was initially thought the road would remain closed for six weeks.

However the highways team has 'pulled out all the stops' and the road will reopen a week ahead of schedule.

"Weather permitting, one lane of the road will reopen with traffic controls from Monday March 17 while the works are completed," said a council spokesman.

"The council would like to thank local businesses and road users for their patience during the closure and apologises for any inconvenience."
