CHARITY fundraisers at a Lakeland caravan park have amassed a four-figure sum for two local good causes which have helped save the lives of many holidaymakers over the years.

Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside this week handed just over £700 to the Great North Air Ambulance Service, and almost £600 to Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue.

The money was raised throughout the past 12 months by a series of fundraising events for the charities, both of which the business has supported for many years.

They included the sale to visitors of walking guides to the Ambleside and South Lakes area, researched and written by park guests and published by Skelwith Fold.

Also contributing to the total was the park's annual arts exhibition which attracts hundreds of entries from park guests who pay a small sum to submit pictures, photographs and poetry.

Skelwith Fold director Henry Wild said that the park's off-the-beaten-track location meant that it felt a special affinity with the work of the air-ambulance and mountain rescue services.

He said: "Many of our visitors enjoy fell-walking, and we are always conscious of that fact that if any got into difficulties, volunteers from these organisations would quickly be on the scene.

"Our guests also appreciate the life-saving difference that their work can make, and have generously supported our fundraising with both time and money."
