LUING cattle are proving increasingly popular among northern England farmers, according one expert.
Luing Cattle Society chairman Andrew McNee said the Lake District was one place where the hardy cattle were being introduced in greater numbers.
“They are a hardy breed, capable of out-wintering and unaided calving, which makes them a perfect proposition for the rugged landscapes of the English Lake District,” he said.
In recognition of the area’s contribution to the Luing breed, the society has chosen a South Lakeland farm for its first show outside Scotland.
The event, at High House Farm, Winster, is on August 1. For more information about the Luing breed and the 2014 open day, and to register interest to attend the event, visit www.winsterluings.tumblr.com or call farm manager Alec Smith direct on 015394 44060 or 07919 233112.
