HUNDREDS of pupils across the region are likely to be staying at home for one day next week due to a teacher's strike.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT), which has around 3,000 members in Cumbria, has called a strike for Wednesday (March 26).
Some schools have already announced their plans however the full picture will not be known until the day.
The action is being taken against:
• Excessive workload and bureaucracy
• Performance related pay and in defence of a national pay scale system
• Unfair pension changes
Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union said:
"Teachers deeply regret the disruption caused by this strike action to parents and teachers. The Government’s refusal, however, to engage to resolve the dispute means that we have no alternative other than to demonstrate the seriousness of our concerns."
Local schools who have already announced their intentions to close include Chapel Street Infants & Nursery School, Dalton, Crosscrake CofE Primary School, Kendal, Holme Community School, Carnforth, Kendal Nursery School and Sandgate School, Kendal.
