A LAKELAND cinema is gearing up for a season of classic silent films from the 1920s.
The Royalty Cinema, Bowness-on-Windermere will be showing five silent classics starting next Saturday (March 29) with a screening of Charlie Chaplin's comedy classic 'The Kid', made in 1921.
All of the silent films will have live musical accompaniment on the 1927 Wurlitzer Cinema Organ which is housed at the Royalty.
"We're really excited about the film season," said Charles Morris of Northern Morris Cinemas.
"The organ is now the only one of its kind in a working cinema anywhere in Europe, so this is a truly unique opportunity to watch these rarely seen films in an authentic setting."
Other films in the series will include the 1927 smash hit 'Wings' starring Clara Bow and Buddy Rodgers in a First World War aviation drama and The Lodger, which is considered to be Hitchcock's first thriller.
The Kid is showing at 7.45pm with well known local musician, Paul Gregson, accompanying.
