DRIVERS using the northbound M6 in Cumbria are being advised that a section of the route will be closed next week for bridge repairs Work to replace a worn expansion joint on a bridge which carries the M6 over the River Lune at Roundthwaite - between junction 37of the motorway at Kendal and junction 38 at Tebay - will be taking place between 8pm and 6am on the nights of Monday and Tuesday next week.

Bridge expansion joints allow a bridge structure to move safely during changes in temperature. A new joint is required on this motorway bridge to ensure the safety of motorway users and minimise noise disturbance to people liviing near the motorway.

Although the work is taking place between junctions 37 and 38, the northbound motorway will be closed between junction 36 at Kirkby Lonsdale and junction 38 - and the diversion from junction 36 will take take traffic back onto the motorway at junction 39 at Shap using the A590, A591 and A6.

Late evening and overnight drivers in Sedbergh and Kendal used to accessing the northbound M6 at junction 37 should also use the northbound A6 instead.

Work will also be continuing next week along the northbound exit slip at junction 39
