THERE was disruption in Cumbria’s schools today as teachers took part in a national walkout.
The National Union of Teachers strike was over pay, pensions and working conditions following unsuccessful talks with the education secretary Michael Gove.
The NUT has around 3,000 members in Cumbria. Full closures were in place at schools including Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale, and Furness Academy, Barrow. Partial closures included Ulverston Victoria High School, The Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, Dowdales, Dalton, Carnforth High School and Kendal’s Queen Katherine School.
The Department for Education said the strike would damage children’s learning.
The NUT has been embroiled in a row with the Government for more than two years.
