A FORMER home of William Wordsworth has opened again for spring - this time with a new addition.

Allan Bank in Grasmere, run by the National Trust, has renovated its kitchen over winter.

It means visitors can now take advantage of local produce and sit around the large kitchen table, enjoying a cup of tea and seasonal food with views towards the Easdale Valley.

Once lived in by Wordsworth and National Trust co-founder Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley, the kitchen was formally opened by Grasmere Resident Mary Bowers who also volunteers at the house.

Allan Bank opened to the public in 2012 after a fire damaged the building in 2011.

Owned by National Trust since 1920, the house had always been rented out as a private residence. Until the fire it was unseen by the public for 200 years.

Wordsworth lived there from 1805 to 1808 and it was left to the National Trust upon the death of Canon Rawnsley.
