EXPORTING to Japan will be the focus of a free business event in Kendal tomorrow (Tuesday).

The session, organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) as part of Export Week, is at Castle Green Hotel from 10am.

Executives from companies currently exporting to Japan will share their experiences and there will be a panel session with English Lakes Hotels, Barclays and North West Forwarders.

There will also be opportunities for networking and one-to-one advice over lunch with the presenters and exhibitors.

Clive Drinkwater, regional director for UKTI North West, said: “This event will offer delegates an opportunity to find out about the variety of prospects available in Japan, covering all aspects of doing business there, and offering the chance to hear from and network with companies who are already active in the market.

“Japan is the thrid largest economy in the world. With GDP twice the size of the UK and GDP per person nine times that of China. Japan remains the high-tech powerhouse economy of Asia - with the second highest spend worldwide on research and development, a hunger for new trends, and an increasingly globalised outlook.

“Exports from the UK are worth £9.6 billion a year and 450 British companies have operations in Japan. British companies are succeeding in Japan across a wide range of manufacturing, consumer goods, high tech and services sectors.

“All these opportunities and more can be explored in more detail with the help of dedicated UKTI International Trade Advisers, and I hope that as many companies as possible can come along and join us at the event.”
