A CLASSIC car lover had his wish fulfilled of taking one last ride in his beloved Morris Traveller.

Stanley Head, 76, was taken to St George’s Church, Kendal, followed by a convoy of Morris Minors organised by his friends in the Cumbria Morris Minor Club.

He had been a member of the club since it was formed five years ago.

A family spokesperson said: “Stan was at his happiest tinkering away with anything mechanical - cars, tractors, bits of machinery. He would spend hours on his cars and tractors restoring them to former glory.

“The Morris Traveller was bought in 1986 and was then garaged for 12 years while he was busy helping run the family B & B. Stan started to restore it in 1998. It passed its MOT on December 1 1999 and he put it on the road on January 1 2000. This was his Millennium project.

“His wishes were always to go in his traveller as one last ride, as it was his pride and joy that he loved and spent a lot of time working on.

“He and his wife Eileen enjoyed many scenic rides out in it with the Morris Minor Car Club.”

Mr Head was born at Kirkby Stephen in 1937 and had lived in the Westmorland area all his life. He is survived by his wife Eileen, four children and eight grandchildren.

His funeral on Monday was attended by more than 350 mourners, which his family said “was a real testament to his loving, gentle and kind-hearted nature.”
