A BARROW man has been sentenced to 90 hours of community service following a police crackdown on legal highs in Cumbria.
Wayne Moffatt, 53, of Myerscough Street, was found guilty of selling items to be used for the preparation and consumption of illegal drugs, including cannabis, as well as legal highs.
Moffatt was sentenced yesterday at Barrow Magistrates court.
The conviction follows a Cumbria Police crackdown on legal highs known as Operation Burdock.
Moffatt’s business, Living World in Barrow, was raided on November 27 2013 during a week of action to tackle the issue.
A large number of drugs paraphernalia was discovered and some legal highs.
Detective Sergeant Mark Somers, said: “Operation Burdock was about highlighting and disrupting the legal high market and aimed to act as a deterrent to those who believe that because they were dealing in legal highs, that there were above the law.
“Many legal highs or new psychoactive substances contained controlled substances such as Class B drugs like mephedrone.
“Information received from the public helped to target specific people and our thanks goes to those members of our communities."
