KIRKBY Stephen Mountain Rescue Team will host open days at the team’s base in Christian Head over the Easter weekend, with plenty of activities available for both adults and children.

On Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20, people will be able to find out more about the team through a tour of their headquarters and Land Rovers.

Young visitors will also be able to have a go on the climbing wall under expert supervision and enjoy a bouncy castle on the field.

As in previous years, Upper Eden Community First Responder Team will be providing tea, cakes and bacon butties in the base, with all proceeds shared between the Mountain Rescue and First Responder teams.

The weekend also offers the opportunity to spend a day with Mountain Rescue team members brushing up on all important hill navigation skills.

Participants on these single day courses will be able to learn the core map reading and compass techniques needed to venture safely onto the fells.

The morning will be spent mastering the key skills in and around the town and the afternoon putting them into practice on a local fell, all in small groups with a Mountain Rescue team member as tutor.

The courses cost £35 per person for the day, with compasses and maps provided, with the  entire proceeds going to the team funds.

The courses should be booked in advance through the team website – www.ksmrt.org.uk
