CHILDREN raced down a ski slope to win trophies last competed for 25 years ago.

Tracy Oncal, event organiser and coach at Kendal Snowsports Club, wanted to revive the old Cumbria inter-school’s ski racing which last took place in 1989.

Twelve schools from Kendal and its districts took part in last Monday’s competition.

A total of 22 teams were involved in categories of year six and under and year three and under.

Winners of the older category were Jade Jones, Oliver Woodburn, Ben Howe and Elliot Woodburn from Vicarage Park C of E School while Alice Sanderson, Anna Roberts, Sophie Roberts and Izzy Sanderson won the younger category for Selside Primary.

Mother of one competitor and club member Elspeth Mason said: “The new spectators area helped create quite an atmosphere for parents and families and a lot of very happy kids getting loads of skiing during practice and the races.

“I think many of them went non-stop for a couple of hours.”
