RAIL passengers travelling through Kemble this Easter weekend will face disruption due to the continued redoubling work between the Cotswold station and Swindon.

Over the weekend work will be done to prepare the ground between the two stations for the redoubling and re-signalling that will be completed by the end of the year.

First Great Western has announced that over the weekend there will be no direct train services from London Paddington to Kemble.

Passengers wanting to travel from the capital to the Cotswolds will have to extend their journey by changing trains at Swindon.

A spokesman for First Great Western said: “Once the work is complete, customers will benefit from quicker journey times from London to Kemble and a better performing service with fewer delays caused by more than one train trying to pass through one single stretch of track in Swindon.”

It is anticipated that up to four trains per hour will be able to travel between Kemble and Swindon once the redoubling work is finished.
