A FORMER Kirkbie Kendal School pupil has received an award named after two teachers who have clocked up more than 60 years in the profession.

Evie Garner, 19, received the new ‘Cater-Dawson’ Cup for out-standing work in media studies.

The cup was named in honour of Geoff Cater and John Dawson. Mr Cater started teaching at KKS in 1980 and retired in 2012 while Mr Dawson will complete 31 years at KKS in September.

Evie is now in her first year of university at Goldsmiths College, London, and on receiving the cup she said: “Before joining KKS Sixth Form I was unsure of my career direction.

“Mr Cater and Mr Dawson were inspirational with their con-temporary examples within media. Their teaching prepared me very well for university.”

Evie received the media prize last September from England rugby coach Stuart Lancaster at the school’s awards evening – but that was before the special cup was inaugurated.

Head teacher Phil Hyman “With more than 60 years of teaching between them it is wonderful that the cup has been named after Geoff and John.

“Evie is a very talented student and it was a privilege to see her receive the cup, as first recipient, from her two teachers.”
