A fitness mad grandmother-of-two is cycling more than 600 miles to raise money for the Samaritans.

Wyn Clayton, 67, of Aikrigg Avenue, Kendal, is hoping to raise £2,000 by riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Her journey, expected to last four weeks, begins on Friday, April 25 and she is hoping her ‘can do attitude’ will get her over the line.

Wyn, who trains around Windermere and Ullswater, said: “I’m a Samaritan, it’s a really worthwhile charity because there’s so many people who have mental health problems or are lonely and Samaritans are always there 24 hours a day. I genuinely believe they save lives.”

A fitness fanatic, Wyn is an avid kayaker and hill walker who firmly believes the older generation should remain active.

She said: “I think you shouldn’t be limited by convention and by attitudes to age.”

Her epic bike ride brings her through Kendal on May 10 and she is hoping to have built on the £300 she has already raised by that date.
