A MARATHON radio broadcast has gone out across Morecambe Bay to raise money for the hospital trust’s station.

Kendal town crier Richard Mathews launched the 60-hour event, which was transmitted by Bay Trust Radio from Elephant Yard, Kendal, the Glebe at Bowness and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary over the Easter weekend.

The two-and-a-half-day event saw the station – which is broadcast across the sites run by the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMBT) – play performances from singers Kev Kendal and Sam Davidson, as well as the Milnthorpe Steel Band.

There was also a prize draw and a fundraising line was set up for listeners to donate via text.

“The team have set an ambitious target and the money raised will help make sure Bay Trust Radio can keep going,” explained John Williamson, president of Bay Trust Radio.

And Barry Rigg, engagement manager for UHMBT, said: “Hospital radio provides a lifeline for our patients.”

The hospital radio began in Kendal in February 1977 with live broadcasts to the Westmorland County Hospital.
