THE A65 has now reopened following the earlier collision between Crooklands and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Traffic was at a standstill this afternoon following the incident at Spital Farm, which involved two cars.

It is thought the collision occured at around 2.15pm.

Police blocked the road in both directions, while firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance also attended.

Nobody has been available at Cumbria Police to give out further information but a spokesman for the force took to Twitter shortly after the crash occured to say it was 'not believed' to be serious.

The whole A65 needs to be looked ,at it was ok for the horse and cart days but not now.How long is it to the Appleby horse fair rolling road blocks starting?Alternative route from Skipton to Kenday bypassing the many lovely villages is required, there is plenty of space to do it, a worthy project.

Oh here we go again....the usual suspects with their words of wisdom. The A65 has to be one of the best main through routes in the North of England. True there are certain parts that could do with upgrading, but the section that this accident happened on is a fairly decent stretch of roads. It has corners in it....maybe you're suggesting that drivers shouldn't have to navigate corners on a road.....!

No on the contrary Trevor, I use this road on a regular basis, times have changed 44 ton trucks are a common user, and in a lot of places the road is not wide enough,When there is an accident (often) the road is blocked and there are few places to divert traffic off it.
imagine what it would be like for the villagers on route to be able to live in a quiet village once again.

What villages does the A65 go through......it's wide enough through Endmoor, it bypasses KL, it bypasses Ingleton. It passes through Cowan Bridge where again the road is wide enough to take all manner of traffic, it bypasses Clapham....surely you get what I'm saying. There's no problem with the A65, it's down to impatient drivers and motorcyclists....and you can't do anything about them.

Well Trevor here are some of villages you forgot about,Gargrave,Long Preston,Hellifield, Coniston Cold, and unless they have moved it Ingleton. Let me know when you intend to take your horse and cart out and I will avoid travelling that Day.If they made sections of the road three lane at intervals as they have in France it would make overtaking so much easier and less risky, I prefer to travel at the legal speed limit not 4 to 15 mph following horses and or tractors for miles. After all it is an A rated road but sadly sub standard for todays volume of traffic

The A65 doesn't go through Ingleton.....the village is to the North of the A65......yes it goes through some villages beyond Settle....but that area wasn't covered by the story....it was this side of Kirkby Lonsdale.
