Massive funding has been granted to Lancaster City Council to build hundreds of affordable homes.
Central government gave £6.9 million towards the construction of 228 houses, 27 of which will be in rural areas.
The grant comes as part of the 2011-2015 Affordable Housing Programme.
David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, said: “It is really important that affordable housing is built here which is why I fought so hard for the development to go ahead.
“I’m pleased Government has a strategy to build affordable homes in rural areas which I hope will allow people who have grown up in our rural areas to continue to live there.”
