GREEN-fingered gardeners and businesses are needed to help a local hospice at a major event which starts later this month.

St Mary’s Hospice needs extra pair of hands as it creates a garden at the Holker Garden Festival between May 30 and June 1.

The Ulverston Hospice is working with Ireleth-based gardener Fiona Thomas to produce The St Mary’s Hospice ‘Garden of Reflection’.

Elaine Close, community fundraiser for the hospice, said: “We attend the Holker Garden Festival every year but this will be the first year we’re actually getting involved in the gardening side.

"It’s a huge undertaking for us and our garden will be extra special in that it will be created mainly by volunteers.

"Therefore we need as many people as possible to come forward to support us; whether it’s by donating their time to help with the building work, carrying out the planting or even providing sponsorship of the garden.”
