FLOWER planters made at HM Prison at Haverigg have been officially unveiled on the platform of Kendal railway station.

The idea for the tubs was put forward by the Lakes Line Rail User Group and was taken up by Kendal Town Council –who paid for the blooms as part of this year’s Britain in Bloom entry.

Robert Talbot, of the rail user group, praised the council for its backing for efforts to transform the station from a semi-derelict state into a place that now welcomed passengers and visitors to the area. He said that new shelters had been installed, flowers planted, art provided and CCTV and customer information screens installed.

The majority of the costs were met by the Lake District National Park Authority through the GoLakes Sustainable Travel programme, with the rest from the Lakes Line Com-munity Rail Partnership.
