COMEDIAN and actor Stephen Mangan is in Kendal today for the gala screening of Postman Pat: The Movie.
The celebrity, who does the voice for the Kendal-inspired postie in the film, is due at The Brewery Arts Centre this afternoon for a premiere and red carpet event.
Touches will include a replica steam engine in the Brewery’s garden.
Heading along will be a real former postie has won a family set of four tickets.
Steven Armstrong, 80, of Kendal, delivered mail in Cumbria for 20 years and said: “I loved the job – I always loved meeting people”.
Steven’s partner Carol Wood, 75, won the Gazette’s competition by correctly answering that the author John Cunliffe was a teacher at Castle Park Primary School when he created Postman Pat.
The pair will be taking along great-granddaughter Megan and a lucky friend.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Carol, “We think the Brewery’s a wonderful place and the film will be really good for Kendal – any publicity for the town is great.”
The film goes on general release in the UK next weekend.
