A PHOTOGRAPH of a yacht off the West coast of Scotland has secured a South Lakeland sailing enthusiast a coveted calendar prize.

This picture of the occasional anchorage at ‘Eilach an Naoimh’ in the Garvellochs led Colin Jex, of Arnside, to be crowned joint April winner of the Royal Yachting Association ilovesailing calendar competition. His picture will now be included in the 2015 RYA ilovesailing calendar.

“The island is the site of a ruined monastery founded in AD542 by St Brendan, and later used by St Columba for its peace and seclusion,” said Mr Jex, who took the photo last June.

“I am thrilled to have won an entry in the RYA calendar. I love sailing with a camera, especially on the West coast of Scotland, so I am very pleased to be able to share a memory of a beautiful time and place with other yachtsmen.”
