A ROCK climber has been airlifted to hospital with 'serious head injuries' after falling at Great Langdale.
The man, who is in his late 30s, took a lead fall while climbing Pavey Ark, near Ambleside, this afternoon (May 21).
An operation was launched to rescue the casualty after Cumbria Police received a call at 2.40pm.
They were assisted by Langdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) and an RAF Sea King helicopter which airlifted him to the Royal Preston Hospital.
The six hour rescue involved 15 members of Langdale MRT plus members of Kendal Mountain Rescue Team.
Cumbria Police are making enquiries, however the incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
