A MAN who was stopped by cops after they became suspicious of his erratic driving had more than £10,000 worth of drugs stashed in his car.

Anthony Farnworth, 45, was jailed yesterday (Friday) for 21 months for his role in supplying drugs in south Cumbria.

Preston Crown Court heard uniformed police were driving near Park Road, Barrow, and became suspicious of a Ford Focus.

Officers noted the vehicle was intermittently braking for no apparent reason and wasn't conducting any form of regulated speed. As a result the car was stopped.

Officers found in Farnworth's jeans pocket a small snap lock bag containing white substance - later identified as amphetamine.

A search of the vehicle found a Laptop box containing large plastic bag of nearly half of kilo of cannabis, said police.

Officers also found a plastic bag containing a further plastic bag with nearly one kilogram of amphetamine.

The drugs were a collective street value of £11,000.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police then searched the home address of Farnworth and found further amounts of cannabis and weighing scales.

Detective Constable Jamie Eaton said: “This was a significant haul of drugs and we are pleased to see another drug dealer be sent to prison.

"Drugs can have a damaging and long-lasting effect on the communities that contain regular users.

"Our continuous aim is to penetrate the supply of drugs to the streets of Cumbria and put the suppliers behind bars.”

Farnworth, of Walmersley Road, Bury, was sentenced for two counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

The incident took place on March 28 just before midnight.

Anyone who has information on the supply of drugs in South Cumbria is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from the South Cumbria Drug Squad.
