A MAN who took his mother’s car without her permission crashed it, leaving one of his passenger’s with permanent facial scarring, a court head.

Jordan Taylor, 25, of Lound Road, Kendal, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking causing injury when he appeared at South Lakeland Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that Taylor and his mother were at the same birthday party in Burneside when he asked for her keys to get some items from the car.

The court head that Taylor, who just had a provisional licence, did not have her permission to drive it.

John Appleby, prosecuting, said that when Taylor’s mother left the party, the car had been reversed into the wall of a car park and the rear windscreen had been smashed.

The court heard that Taylor had been to the car to get some colouring books for children at the party and failed to give the keys back.

He returned to it later with two friends, saying he would drive them somewhere else for a drink after the pub they were in closed for the night.

After getting into the car Taylor, who admitted having drunk around 10 pints of lager and smoking cannabis earlier in the evening, reversed straight into a wall.

His friend, Carl Green, hit his head on something in the car and had to have 15 stitches to the left side of his forehead.

In mitigation, Chris Evans said Taylor had “no recollection of driving the car and no memory of his actions once he left the pub”.

He went on to say that Taylor was ‘disgusted’ about the way he had acted.

He was given a high level community order including 18 months supervision, Thinking Skills programme, Cumbria Alcohol Awareness Intervention and a three-month curfew of 8am to 6pm.

Taylor was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay compensation of £1,500 and a victim surcharge of £60.
