COLD callers claiming to be charity collectors have been targeting businesses in Ulverston.
Cumbria Trading Standards have issued a warning following several reports of a female cold-calling and asking for donations for a speech and hearing impairment charity.
"Our advice is never to deal with cold callers," said a spokesperson.
"If you are in doubt ask them for their registered charity number.
"Any legitimate charity will be happy to give you this number."
The number can then be checked on the Charity Commission's website at www.charitycommission.gov.uk
Anyone with concerns should contact Cumbria police on 101 or contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 04 05 06.
