A CAR and a minibus collision sparked a fire alert at Penny Bridge, Ulverston, yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters from Ulverston were called to the incident at around 3pm after reports that the crash had started a blaze.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "One car and a minibus were involved and the fire was out on arrival. The crew removed the batteries from both vehicles. All people were out of the vehicles and being checked over by paramedics."

The incident followed callouts to two other vehicle fires on Friday.

At 1:04am,  firefighters were called to a report of a car fire near Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in South Lakeland.

When they arrived crews found that a car had set on fire after colliding with a wall. Hose reels were used to put the fire out.

At 4:36am on Friday two fire engines attended a car fire on M6 between junction 41 and 42 northbound. A Range Rover was well alight on arrival and the crews used one hose reel jet and foam to put it out.
