PLANS have been submit-ted to upgrade Arnside’s Educational Institute so that it can house the village’s library.
The library building, on steep Pier Lane, has been labelled unsuitable for disabled users and must be replaced.
“The current library is a lovely little place but it’s on the kind of road where you find you’re running away with yourself,” said parish pouncil chair Elaine Wood.
“I think there have been problems with disabled access.”
A planning application has been submitted to South Lakeland District Council for alterations to the Institute including removal of an internal wall and new heating and lighting installations.
There will also be a new ramp to provide wheelchair access and the garden will be reduced in size to allow for an extension to the car park.
