Road closures announced for Ulverston Carnival
1:17pm Tuesday 17th June 2014 in News
POLICE have issued advice to motorists in Ulverston ahead of the annual Carnival Parade.
The parade, which takes place on Saturday July 5, will see events in the town centre and Ford Park occur for most of the day.
A road closure has been granted for the streets affected by the parade and the closure will be effective from midday to 4pm.
In order to ensure the safety of members of the public, participants and volunteers, the road closure will be robustly enforced. The only exceptions will be for emergency vehicles and staff.
In order to ensure the safe passage of the parade, the route will be subject of temporary parking restrictions and residents are asked to ensure that their vehicles are moved from the parade route as early as possible.
The whole of the Ulverston town centre area is a designated alcohol free area. This includes the car parks and Ford Park. The alcohol free legislation has been waived for the duration of the parade but will be enforced following its conclusion.
Sergeant Rupert Johnston said: “We are looking forward to what should be a great parade and ask that members of the public enjoy the event responsibly. We hope that members of the public work with us in order to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable afternoon.”
The parade starts at 1pm and will form at Ford Park and Hart Street. The parade will then travel right on to Fountain Street and pass through Soutergate, Sun Street, Stanley Street, Mill Street, King Street, Queen Street, Cavendish Street, New Market Street, Market Street and Union Street before returning to Hart Street.
Anyone with concerns can contact Police on 101 and ask to speak to an Officer from the Ulverston & Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team.
