FIFTY cyclists will be donning lycra and putting power to the pedals this weekend to raise cash for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The challenge - ‘Le Coast to Coast’ - will begin in Grange tomorrow morning before cyclists head up hill and down dale before reaching Scarborough on Sunday evening.

Cheryl Barrett of Marie Curie, taking part in the event, said: “We always love it when we get support from local communities en-route; whether that’s cheering us on or making a donation.

“The event raises more than £20,000 each year, which funds a Marie Curie nurse in the local community for an entire year.”

The route will also take in Dent and other towns in North Yorkshire, over a route of around 150 miles.

One of the participants will be Alistair Griffin, the Yorkshire-born singer/songwriter who has written and performed the official anthem of Yorkshire’s Grand Départ, ‘The Road’.

Cheryl added: “This is the third time Alistair’s taken part in the Coast to Coast, and it’s a real privilege to have him on board in the year the Grand Départ comes to Yorkshire.”

The event this year also has special significance as it coincides with National Bike Week, while Marie Curie is the official charity partner of the Tour de France Grand Départ in the UK.
