Ambleside man escapes jail sentence after assaulting girlfriend during rugby trip row

AN Ambleside man pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend in Cardiff city centre while on a day trip to watch the Six Nations Rugby.

South Lakeland Magistrates’ Court heard that Gavin Liptrot, 41, grabbed June Hilliard’s arm while she was walking away after an argument.

Liptrot, of Lake Road, was subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time of the offence, and this was extended by six months by the court.

He was also ordered to pay court costs of £320 and a victim surcharge of £80.
