AN area of Kendal is gearing up to commemorate the First World War this weekend.
On Saturday June 28, there will be a family fun day for Greenside and Fellside with Summerhill Residential Care Home.
The free event starts at 2pm on Greenside by the Rifleman’s Arms pub and in the grounds of the nearby Summerhill Care Home.
Events taking place include a Mayoral opening by the Kendal Town Crier at Summerhill followed by traditional Punch 'n' Judy on the Green.

There will also be live music events including Memory Lane’s production of ‘Best of British’ a tribute to World War 1 at Summerhill, and later in the evening, Burneside Brass will perform a Proms Concert for picnic goers on the Green.
A vintage tea stall will be raising funds for the British Legion, who will be in attendance at Summerhill.
Other events of the day will include children’s sporting and crafting events, both at Summerhill and on the Green.
Well-known story teller Taffy Thomas will also be taking part, alongside a ‘Jacob’s Join’ children’s tea party to complete this event.
