DRIVERS heading through a Lake District village are being warned to observe new 20mph signs.
The signs have gone in at Elterwater near Great Langdale following a long campaign by residents supported by local councillors.
Local businessman and resident, Ben Price, who runs the Good Life Cottage Company in the village, said: "Whilst not a legally enforceable limit hopefully it should deter the majority of drivers from speeding.
"Local residents had asked for a proper limit to be set but it seems that unless there has already been an accident involving injury then the road is not deemed as needing a limit.
"As a resident whose home and garden are on opposite sides of the road with a seven-year-old who wants to play in the garden, I hope it's not an accident involving my child that gets us taken seriously."
"The new signs are still a good start though," he added.
