THE gardening team at Ingleton Primary School has spent the last few weeks preparing a fruit and vegetable box for the Great Yorkshire Show.

The National Farmers’ Union and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society want schools to grow a box of fruit and vegetables as a way of making children enjoy food they have grown.

Ingleton's box contains strawberries, blackcurrants, tomatoes, peppers, a cherry tree, fennel, chard, curly kale, lettuce, beans, peas, nasturtiums, sweet peas, marigolds, cornflowers, sage and lavender. The children hope the plants will attract wildlife to promote pollination.
