A LOCAL caravan company held a special event to mark the summer solstice.

Kendal Caravans on the A6 Shap Road at Selside, opened its gates early on Saturday June 21 for customers to see the sun rise.

The event coincided with the company hosting a showcase of its caravan holiday homes, which it says is the largest in the North West.

To get customers in the mood, it hosted a 1970’s themed Solstice Celebration from 11am till 3pm with staff dressed in hippy gear and Seventies music.

The company, run by managing director Mark Molyneaux, is situated on the site of the famous ‘Jungle Café’ run by Flora Goodall, which closed when the M6 opened.

It was also home to the Leyland Clock, now housed in the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.
