AN award-winning brewery is expanding its business today by opening a craft bar to serve the best beers the world has to offer.

Hardknott Brewery, based in Millom, has been working on plans for its Hardknott On Track bar at the town’s railway station.

Dave Bailey, who runs the brewery with his partner Ann Wedgwood, said the bar would showcase Hardknott’s beers but also guest beers that had never been seen in Cumbria before.

These include Snake Dog IPA from the Flying Dog brewery, which is based in Maryland in the United States.

Mr Bailey said: “We will be offering something very radical and unique to Cumbria. Everything we serve - from our own beers to the guest beers we source from Cumbria, the UK and around the world – will be something new and different. We want this to be somewhere where people can come and enjoy having a drink of something special which is a pursuit and interest in its own right.

“Obviously we couldn't be closer to the railway line and I know that people already take the train from Barrow, Ulverston, Workington, Whitehaven and Carlisle to visit some the brilliant pubs on the route.

"I want Hardknott OnTrack to be another stop off along the way."

"We have spent months working on the decor and design of the bar and we are really excited about finally opening it up to the general public.

"As well as being a great development for us, we also want the bar to be a place that is popular with people in the local area and helps bring more people and more money into the local economy."
