A DRINK driver who crashed his car and fled on foot was banned from driving and ordered to pay out more than £500 in fines and costs.
Adam Christopher Parker, of Queen Katherine Street, Kendal, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit and failing to stop after a road accident when he appeared at South Lakeland Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard the 21-year-old got behind the wheel after a five-and-a-half hour session of drinking pints and shots in Kendal on June 8.
MORE TOP STORIES: Lisa Hine, prosecuting, said Parker crashed his Volkswagen Golf into and damaged a mobile traffic sign at Plumgarths, Kendal, at about 5am, before abandoning the car to run down Windermere Road to find his friend.
Ms Hine added that police found Parker with a friend where he identified himself as the driver and admitted: “I’ve messed up.”
A roadside breath test found he had 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.
In mitigation, David Mainwaring said Parker, who has been driving for two-and-a-half years, bitterly regretted his actions and he could not explain why he did it.
Parker was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £250 for driving over the limit.
He was also ordered to pay a £150 fine for failing to stop, £85 court costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
