MEMBERS of a Windermere football club are in shock after vandals destroyed their equipment shed – just seven months after they raised the money to buy it.

Heathwaite Junior Football Club discovered on Thursday that the front of the shed on their Rayrigg Meadow pitch had been smashed, as well as the side window.

The shed, which houses equipment for the pitch including goal nets and corner flags, was put in place in November after the previous one was also vandalised.

“Someone had just picked it up and thrown it,” said committee member Colin Barnes, “so for this one we built a base and bolted it to the ground.

“We’ve only just managed to raise the money for it and it took three men four hours to put it up.

“I’m just gobsmacked that anyone would want to do this – it’s unbelievable.”

The incident has caused £200 worth of damage, and Colin said the worst case scenario would mean the teams are unable to store anything on the pitch and would have to bring their equipment from another field.

The club has ten junior teams in total, aged between four and 16, four of which use the Rayrigg Meadow Pitch.

The damage occurred between Saturday (June 21) and Wednesday (June 26).

Cumbria Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101 and quote incident number 200 June 26.
