IT was the icing on the cake for Kendal gran Pauline Hutchinson when she discovered her afternoon tea party had raised £688 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Pauline hosted more than 50 guests at her home in Milnthorpe Road and served goodies including home-made scones, sandwiches, fruit loaf, flapjacks, brownies, gingerbread, shortbread, and cakes.
Pauline, who was catering manager at the RSPB Leighton Moss before retiring, decorated the garden with candles, bunting and filled it with clothed tables strewn with rose petals.
She discovered the foundation after her older sister Valerie Stirling, of Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, was diagnosed with lung cancer and began treatment at the Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston where the charity is based.
Pauline said: “I hadn’t really heard of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation until Valerie began her treatment.
“I didn’t realise it was South Cumbria’s local cancer charity but as soon as I found out, I was happy to give my support.”
