A MOTORIST avoided a driving ban after being found by police officers in Kirkby Lonsdale drinking Special Brew in his car.

Roy Fellows, 61, of Main Street, Lancaster, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit.

A roadside breath test showed Fellows had 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The court heard that Fellows had something to drink at a village fete during the day and stopped in Kirkby Lonsdale on the way back to Lancaster to buy alcohol.

He heard a band playing outside a pub and decided to stop and listen to them.

Fellows’ licence was endorsed with ten penalty points, he was fined £250 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
