A GROUP of seven horse riders from a riding school were treated for injuries after their horses got spooked in Coniston.

The North West Ambulance Service, Great North Air Ambulance and Coniston Mountain Rescue team all attended The Banks at around 2.20pm on Thursday.

One man with chest pain was airlifted to Furness General Hospital (FGH).

Four other riders were taken to FGH by land ambulance – one with leg and arm injuries, one with grazes to his back, one with a dislocated right shoulder and one with scrapes.

Two were considered well enough not to require hospital treatment.

At the time it was understood that one horse required veterinary assistance.
