The Westmorland Gazette: Windfarm worker suffers head injury near Walney Island Windfarm worker suffers head injury near Walney Island

A WORKER at an offshore windfarm suffered a head injury off Walney Island.

RNLI's Barrow crew were called to the Ormonde windfarm, six miles west of Barrow, at 11.25pm last night (July 8).

The team received a radio message saying a man had suffered a head injury and required immediate evacuation to hospital.

The lifeboat crew went to the scene and found that the crew of the wind farm barge had managed to crane lift the casualty onto the wind farm support vessel ‘Attender’.

The lifeboat crew then plotted the shortest and fastest course for the vessels to take on route to Barrow Docks where NWAS paramedics, the Furness Coastguard team and Rescue helicopter 122 from RAF Valley were waiting to assist.

After assessment and treatment by the paramedics the helicopter crew then flew the casualty to the Preston Royal Hospital for treatment.
