A CHARITY tractor road run is to take to the roads of Eden again later this year in memory of a much missed member of the farming community.

The family of Dougy Lamond, who died of pancreatic cancer weeks after being diagnosed with the disease, have organised the event for the second year running.

Last year’s event saw 75 vintage tractors cover more than 50 miles and £6,700 was raised for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The 66-year-old dad-of-one, who lived in Long Marton and Kirkby Thore near Appleby but latterly at Newton Reigny on the outskirts of Penrith, came from a long farming and outdoors background. He loved vintage tractors and took part in shows all over the country.

His sudden loss in November 2012 shocked the close-knit farming community with more than 400 people attending his funeral.

Modern and vintage tractors will take to the road on Sunday August 4 and will pass through Penrith, Eden Hall, Langwathby, Culgaith, Newbiggin, Kirkby Thore, Long Marton, Dufton, Keisley, Murton, Hilton, Coupland Beck, Appleby, Colby, Bolton, Kings Meaburn, Morland, Great Strickland, Clifton Dykes, Eamont Bridge and back to Newton Reigny via Castle Town in Penrith.

A collection will be made as they pass through each community.
Entry forms are available from Eileen Lamond, The Paddock, Newton Reigny, Penrith, CA11 0AP, or by calling 01768 863568
