The puppy was a 12-week-old black Lakeland Patterdale with tan coloured legs and a white spot on its chest.
Police have said a white van with tinted windows was seen leaving the area.
In a further theft earlier that day, fencing and a Husqvara chainsaw were taken from a farm at Garsdale, Sedbergh between 9.20am and 1pm.
