KENDAL Cricket Club has become home to a pair of nesting oystercatchers which have successfully raised a chick this breeding season.
The pair nest on a rough gravel area in the builder’s yard next to the ground – but spend most of every day feeding on the club’s outfield, even when a match is on.
Club Secretary Dave Sykes said: “They seem unconcerned by the players on the field.
“It is the second year they have done this and they have been adopted by the club as our unofficial mascots – at the start of the year when there was just the male here he gained the name of Ollie.”
