MESSAGES of support have been received from around the world one month after a fire tore through an historic Lake District hotel.

The Queen's Head at Troutbeck was partially-destroyed by the blaze which ripped through several bedrooms after starting in the laundry room.

Around 50 people escaped from the 17th Century inn and at the height of incident 11 fire engines and almost 60 firefighters were tackling the blaze at the Grade II-listed building.

Following weeks of assessing the damage management have not set a date for a re-opening of the 15-bedroomed hotel but have promised it will rise from the ashes.

“We are not yet in the position to provide a date as to when the Queen's Head will re-open, but hopefully, the refurbishment will commence soon,” said managing director Ian Dutton.

“When we do re-open, we are determined to make the Queen's Head even better than it was before.”

Mr Dutton said the damage was confined in the most part to the upper floor.

A number of historical artefacts were saved including a unique bar which was once an Elizabethan four poster bed in one of the bedrooms in Appleby Castle and the Mayor's Chair.

“Once again, on behalf of myself and all the staff, I would like to extend my very grateful thanks for the continuing messages of kindness and support from across the world,” added Mr Dutton.
