A number of community groups and projects in South Lakeland have been awarded grants totalling more than £6,500.

Cumbria County Council’s South Lakeland Local Committee has granted a total of £6,589 from seven different councillors’ Local Revenue Scheme allocations – a funding stream that gives each local member a sum of money to support projects in their division, subject to committee’s approval.

The funding approved is as follows:

Kent Estuary Division – Councillor Ian Stewart: £2,500 to Age UK South Lakeland, to support the development of a peer support group for people living with dementia and their carers in the Milnthorpe/Arnside areas.

£500 to Storth Playing Field Committee, to contribute towards improving and upgrading existing facilities

Lower Kentdale Division – Councillor Roger Bingham: £300 to Dallam Swimming Club, as contribution towards essential repairs to assist with the re-opening of the pool.

Lakes Division – Councillor Heidi Halliday: £700 to the Armitt Trust, towards the design and erection of a new sign to promote the location of the Armitt Museum, Ambleside.

£333 to support installation of a defibrillator at Ambleside Library.

Low Furness Division – Councillor Janet Willis: £1,000 to Leece Community First Responders towards new equipment.

Ulverston West Division – Councillor James Airey: £500 towards improvements to the catwalk, on Urswick Tarn, used by residents and visitors.

Kendal Highgate – Councillor Geoff Cook: £452 to support the installation of a defibrillator at Kendal Library.

Ulverston East Division – Councillor Mark Wilson: £304 to support the installation of a defibrillator at The Old Laundry Building.

Ulverston councillor John McCreesh, Chair of South Lakeland Local Committee, said: “These grants give a big boost to our communities and help support a number of very worthy causes. I’m delighted the committee is investing in these community schemes which are making a real difference across South Lakeland.”
