A MYSTERY tour ended in a slap-up silver service afternoon tea at the Ritz Hotel in London for two long-serving bakers at The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.
Steve Mellor and Nigel Prickett said they were ‘treated like Royalty’ by shop owners Andrew and Joanne Hunter, after each notching up 25 years continuous employment at the 160-year-old business.
The surprise trip to London for both men, and their wives, also included first-class train travel, lunch at Harrods, an evening at The Phantom of the Opera and an overnight stay at the Westminster Plaza overlooking the Thames.
“Andrew just told us to pack overnight bags and turn up at the shop one morning,” said 58-year-old Steve. “The next thing we knew we were on the train to London and the next two days were just fantastic.”
