A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after suffering severe back injuries following a crash.

The 40-year-old was involved in a multi-casualty collision at Salkeld, north of Penrith, yesterday (July 22).

The Great North Air Ambulance was called at 6.05pm to assist the North West Ambulance Service and a BASICS doctor at the scene.

With suspected spinal injuries, the woman was treated by a trauma team before being flown to the Major Trauma Centre at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary hospital.
